Intermittent CAN Bus Fault — Iveco EuroCargo

The Problem

After a decent stint on the road, the speed dial would randomly drop out and the gearbox would stop shifting. No pattern, no warning — gone by the time it reached a garage.

The Diagnosis

Fault codes across multiple modules — gearbox, dashboard, tachograph, braking, instrument cluster, AEBS — all logged intermittent CAN line errors at once, pointing to one shared circuit rather than five separate faults. Wiring diagrams narrowed the suspect list to the front radar/AEBS unit, and a simple DC voltage check on the line confirmed it was sitting noticeably low.

The Fix

Followed the line to the AEBS connector and found corrosion sitting right across the pins — exactly the kind of fault that comes and goes with heat and vibration. Replaced the affected pins, resealed the connector against moisture, and rechecked the line voltage — back to spec.

The Result

Vehicle back in service, running fault-free since — no repeat CAN errors logged on any module. A network fault chased with parts instead of proper diagnosis just comes straight back.
